It is incredible to watch @paulzizkaphoto living out his dreams and passions each and every day. ✨ I feel so honoured to have walked beside him every step of his journey. Back in 2006, I put together a photo book of his images and gave it to him for Christmas- all the images were taken on a 12 pixel point and shoot. I still have a copy of it and it will always be one of my favourite things. He certainly had a good eye back then, but his creative journey has become something neither of us could have envisioned. He is truly the hardest working photographer and person I know. I’m not gonna lie, it’s tough when he’s gone. But the joy and fulfillment I get from watching him work his magic and teaching others is worth the heavy lifting at home. And when he’s home, he’s such an amazing dad and partner. We can’t have it all, all the time. So congrats, Paul, on winning the award for Mountain Image at the @banffmountainfestival this year. You 💯% deserve it. It’s National Breastfeeding Week 🤱🏽, and while I’m all for breastfeeding and its benefits, it’s not something I talk about much. But I should. I have nursed my babies in many, many places, from coffee shops to backcountry trails, airplanes and even in toilet stalls. I have nursed in front of clients, colleagues, friends, my father-in-law, and total strangers. (This photo was taken at Boulder Pass, in Banff National Park.) But, my first go at it wasn’t easy. I was lucky to have people in my life who helped point me in the right direction, and who helped me troubleshoot when things weren’t going well. I wish this for ALL new mothers. I think all women need a solid lactation consultant by their side before troubles even begin. In our nation, we don’t really grow up watching women nurse. Or we do, and baby is tucked under a blanket, hidden away. In other nations, younger girls watch and learn. They “know” how to do it without being taught. The secrets and tricks are passed down through generations. Breastfeeding can be tricky at first, but down the line it makes life - especially life on the go - much, much easier. It feels like only yesterday we were premiering Mountains in Motion with @dougurquhart, but then I realized that was way back in 2012 when I was pregnant with Maya. Time sure flies!
