Meghan J. Ward is an outdoor, travel and adventure writer, and the co-founder/editor of Crowfoot Media, a mountain culture publishing house based in Banff, AB.
Meghan’s work has previously appeared in such publications as IMPACT Magazine, Avenue Calgary, Kootenay Mountain Culture, Alpinist.com, Backcountry Magazine, The Real Banff, Where.ca, Skiing.com, tujawellness.com, Canadian Alpine Journal, various newspapers in Western Canada, and Highline Magazine, where she also served as Editor from 2011 to 2013.
She is a tourism marketing specialist and has worked on publications and materials with Travel Alberta, Banff Lake Louise Tourism, Parks Canada and a variety of Rockies-based clients. In May 2012 she launched The Adventures in Parenthood Project, where she is exploring the transition of outdoor adventurers to parenthood. In 2011 she created the outdoor blog, The Campsite, which she sold to new owners in January 2015.
She is an active member of the Alpine Club of Canada (ACC), sitting on their Mountain Culture committee. Back in 2011, she wrote The State of the Mountains Report, an ACC study into the impacts of climate change from the perspective of some of Canada’s top mountaineers.
Meghan loves any sport that takes her up a mountain or into the backcountry, and also enjoys travel, photography and yoga. Her own adventures have taken her backpacking in the Caribbean, ski touring in the Arctic, climbing throughout The Canadian Rockies and trekking in Nepal. She lives in Banff, Alberta, with her husband, Paul Zizka, a mountain landscape and adventure photographer, and their daughter, Mistaya. Their travels as a trio have so far taken them to New Zealand, Niue, French Polynesia, Hawaii and Belize.
In 2014, she was amongst 10 bloggers chosen for USA Today’s 10 Best Readers’ Choice Award for Favourite Hiking and Outdoors Travel Blogger.
