Meghan J. Ward is a writer, editor and digital content specialist based in Banff, Canada. The co-founder at Crowfoot Media, an independent mountain culture publishing house, she is also the Editor-in-Chief of the award-winning Canadian Rockies Annual.
Raised in Ottawa, Meghan ventured West to the mountains in 2005 and never looked back. An avid outdoor adventurer with a voracious appetite to understand her surroundings, in the past decade she has established herself as a mountain historian and an authoritative voice in the Rockies outdoor and travel scene. In 2017 she saw four Canadian Rockies photo/travel books published by Rocky Mountain Books, which she compiled in collaboration with mountain photographer (and her husband) Paul Zizka.
She is an active member of the Alpine Club of Canada (ACC), sitting on their Mountain Culture committee, as well as a Fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society. On the side, she works closely with Paul Zizka Photography, and as a content advisor for OFFBEAT, a cutting-edge photo community that helps photographers push themselves creatively through web-based resources and workshops.
Meghan’s work has appeared in such publications as IMPACT Magazine, Avenue Calgary, Canadian Rockies Annual, Kootenay Mountain Culture, Alpinist.com, Backcountry Magazine, BanffLakeLouise.com, Where.ca, Skiing.com, tujawellness.com, Canadian Alpine Journal, various newspapers in Western Canada, and Highline Magazine, where she also served as Editor from 2011 to 2013. She also writes tourism marketing content for such clients as Banff & Lake Luise Tourism, Travel Alberta and Parks Canada.
In 2012 Meghan launched The Adventures in Parenthood Project, where she explores the transition of outdoor adventurers to parenthood. In 2014, she was amongst 10 bloggers chosen for USA Today’s 10 Best Readers’ Choice Award for Favourite Hiking and Outdoors Travel Blogger.
Meghan loves any sport that takes her up a mountain or into the backcountry, and also enjoys travel and photography. Her own adventures have taken her backpacking in the Caribbean, ski touring in the Arctic, climbing throughout The Canadian Rockies and trekking in Nepal. Her travels with her family have so far taken them to New Zealand, Niue, French Polynesia, Hawaii (Oahu, Big Island and Kaua’i), Belize and across Canada.
